One Year’s Time

One year, 12 months, 52 weeks and 365 days …. they all come down to the same thing — TIME. At the close of most years, we say, “Wow, where has this year gone?” or “I can’t

believe this year is gone already, seems like it just started.” We all say it but it doesn’t recover any of the weeks or months that are gone.

As I’ve watched my grandson grow and develop over these last 12 months, I’ve have a new understanding and appreciation for time. We need time to become who we are meant to be.  Killian, my grandson, was helpless to crawl, stand, walk, speak (except to cry) or reach for things when he was born. But today, 12 months later, he does all those things. Yes, there were times I wished he would talk to me so I knew what he wanted or needed. But he needed the days and weeks and months that make up a year to speak up.

Month by month he changed. He smiled, he rolled over as his little body gained strength and his sensory nerves were awakened. Today, at one year old, he laughs, repeats some words after us, pulls himself up, stands and has taken several steps on his journey to 20171023_170200growing up. His laugh is absolutely adorable and very contagious.

All these things have happened because of the passage of time. It may seem that a day or a week is passing slowly and a year goes by at supersonic speed but a day still has the power of 24

FB_IMG_1515609781213 hours and a year still has the ability to change us from one thing to another.

Let’s embrace every 24 hours to learn, to develop and to become something better. We, as adults may not need time to learn to walk but we need to time to walk to higher heights of love and compassion. We may not need time to learn to build a wall with Legos but we do need time to build up our spirits in faith and trust in our Heavenly Father.

2018 is a brand new year. I know Killian will change in significant ways. He’ll be walking 20180120_144723everywhere, talking everything as his learning curve spikes upward. I want to grow and do and become a lot more than I am today. Killian, you are my inspiration. 2018 is going to be the best!
